ROTMG Meets Minecraft: The Path of Olympus Vision
By Shangapallia
Examine this pattern: rotmg on phone, rotmg in Roblox, I guess it continues into Nintendo Switch? No, but as good or better--rotmg in Minecraft. JK rotmg in Hytale
Reeses is, from my conversation with him, an excited, ambitious and overall successful individual. He will be taking on this project as the lead. With him, @minuie_ and @schmutz02 will be the brain while Reeses will be the heart. Reeses, as the compassionate man he is, wants to kickstart their programming careers via this enterprise. There are even talks about formal investments into this project, but that is preliminary yet potential.
Now on a technical note, transitioning into the Hytale-engine is expected to be smooth, except for one main caveat. The client is presumed to be in Python, but even if not, definitely not in Flash. Despite this hurdle, the benefit is an architecture, which supports their vision, namely, like Minecraft's Hypixel: a main hub and branches of minigames chosen and entered from that hub. All of the minigames will be based on the same core game. Examples of such games would be a creative, chaotic experience like Garry's mod, but also of course a more traditional linear experience. Additionally, one of Reeses' ideas is a pvp server. At least the linear experience will be sourced from Reeses' current private server, Path of Olympus or (PoO). Hypixel is, funnily enough, the founder of Hytale.
There is no ETA, but their plan is to benefit from the traction they project Hytale to receive in one or two years, when the game is polished, and when their team has learned the engine's ins and outs. Hytale will release on January 13, 2026. Reeses' plan then is for the team to play the game for two weeks, soaking it into their veins. Afterwards, he wants them to practise by creating mini-games in the engine. They will also devote time and energy toward PoO, including a ring update and a solo-campaign-like progression system.
Is this all a dream or possible? From my conversation with Reeses, he is wholeheartedly passionate about this, and is grateful for what the community has given him. So this is partly his way of giving back.
Lastly, the one thing which has been on your mind related to this, "will it look like normal-rotmg or the Hytale aesthetic?". It is going to look like Hytale but top-down.
